On October 28, 2020, we organized a webinar on the topic “How to establish and operate a small investment fund?”. This is an area which, together with our affiliated tax-accounting consulting company CARPATHIAN Tax & Accounting, we comprehensively address not only in terms of legal regulation, but also from the perspective of tax consulting and accounting. The webinar was attended not only by entrepreneurs and managers of existing fund structures, but also by representatives of the Slovak National Bank (NBS) and the general public.

One of the main topics of the webinar was the topic of possible intersection of thin boundaries of collective investment and standard debt and equity investments. An interesting discussion took place on this topic with representatives of the NBS, where we discussed, among other things:

  • Where is the regulatory line between collective investment and standard equity and debt financing, or investment crowdfunding?
  • What is the role and practice of the NBS in supervising this area?
  • What is the practice of establishing venture capital funds in Slovakia?

At the webinar, we also gave a practical insight to the most important requirements for the establishment and operation of a small investment fund, its taxation regime and the specifics of accounting for fund structures. We also briefly touched on the possibility of establishing offshore funds and distribution of the fund in Slovakia. If you are interested in the topic, you can buy a record of the online webinar here.
